Move over, Love & Hip Hop! Tonight, Cardi B will make her debut on hit series Being Mary Jane.

The Dominican and Trinidadian businesswoman will appear on the fourth season of the BET show as Mercedes.

The emerging emcee and rising actress spoke with us before the season premiere. “If I was dumb, I wouldn’t have anything. I wouldn’t be here,” she said. “They shouldn’t mistake ‘hood with stupid.”

Cardi B’s career is becoming as well-rounded as her renowned curves. And she’s taking acting seriously. With only one day to memorize her lines, a grateful Cardi said her transition was crazy, but it wasn’t complicated. “My character is somewhat like me. She is a spoiled, rich, ‘hood girl,” she laughed. “I see myself in her because she is a little bossy.”

She’ll shine alongside scripted drama lead Gabrielle Union and even New Jersey Senator Cory Booker.

After her first acting role, you can definitely expect to see her more scripted.

Cardi B has a busy year ahead of her, and as the commas keep building on her résumé, so do the ones in her bank account. Hollywood better get ready for this not-so “regular, schmegular Bronx-born Afro-Latina. We’ll be tuned in for her Being Mary Jane debut!
